Wellness Workdays

Nutrition Communications & Marketing

Hingham, MA (Remote)

267 SUPERVISED HOURS

I worked closely with the Wellness Workdays staff and three other interns to create materials and content for other companies' worksite wellness programs. Creating original conent, distributing press releases, blog writing, and email marketing were some of the main tasks I was given.

This rotation taught me how to work as a team and collaborate with not only my Wellness Workdays team, but also our clients. With this rotation being remote, I was able to see how big of an impact dietitians can make through a virtual setting.

UC San Diego

Food Service Management

La Jolla, California

184 SUPERVISED HOURS

I worked alongside one of the only dietitians at the university of over 32,000 students to make sure their needs are met. With many of the students living on campus and incoming international students, one of the main areas to focus on was to create menus and dishes that students would find comfort in, while still meeting their recommended daily intake.

Some tasks included creating allergen-free menus, performing food safety audits, nutrition counseling, shopping with students, ordering inventory, and collaborating with kitchen and dining staff.

San Diego Red Cross WIC

Community & Marketing

San Diego, California

252 SUPERVISED HOURS

I worked with 3 of the San Diego Red Cross WIC dietitians in different areas of nutrition - nutrition education and counseling for breastfeeding mothers, nutrition and health promotion for WIC participants, and digital marketing and communications. I also volunteered at the local farmer's market to teach nutrition education for those participating in the program.

Through this rotation I learned how great of an impact nutrition education can be. Those in the WIC program had very little nutrition knowledge and learning how to communicate to them in way that they will understand was a skill that I was able to improve.

Eating Recovery Center

Outpatient Clinical

Ohio (Remote)

459 SUPERVISED HOURS

Working remotely at an outpatient disordered eating center was the most challenging. I worked closely with the interdisciplinary team to make sure the patient's needs were met. I worked mainly with the anorexia nervosa patients, but has a chance to join dietitians who worked with binge-eating disorder patients and adolescents.

Leading group discussions, providing counseling, assessing and completing client intake forms are just a few of the tasks I performed. During this rotation I learned the importance of client-centered care and creating a safe environment for change.
